Weeks 1-2 First Practices

  • Learn every kid's name: Use name tags if needed. Nothing matters more.
  • Establish the routine: Same warmup, same structure. Kids thrive on consistency.
  • Assess skill levels: Who can catch? Who's fast? Who needs extra help?
  • Install one play: Just one. Run it until everyone knows it.
  • Make it fun: End with a game. Send kids home excited to come back.

Weeks 3-9 Game Weeks

  • One practice per week: Focus on what you saw last game.
  • Manage rotations: Every kid plays. Track it so no one gets forgotten.
  • Keep plays simple: 3-4 plays max. Run them well.
  • Halftime adjustments: What's working? What's not? Keep it to one change.
  • Communicate with parents: Quick update after each game. Celebrate the kids.

Week 10 Playoffs

  • Review your best plays: Stick with what works. No new installs.
  • Maybe one trick play: Something fun you've been saving.
  • Manage emotions: Yours and theirs. It's supposed to be fun.
